Opening Day

The games began with last season’s open division champions, Ngchesar, pitted against the 2007 champions, the Kayangel Angels.  Spectacular plays were made and bats swung in lightning speed that most of the balls appeared warped as they flew across the field – some over the fence. Both teams had to work earnestly to earn runs and a seesaw battle, which began after the first pitch, continued to the bottom of the last inning.

In the end, the Kayangel Angels held unto a 3-run advantage – earned at the top of the 7th inning – and gave Ngchesar its first loss of the season (13-10.)The fervor of the first game oozed unto the games that followed and the fans who were at the games swore that this is the season to be watched. The Ngiwal ChelidWith and the Melekeok Salty Boys also put on a show of power offense and ridiculously tremendous defensive plays worthy of ESPN’s “Play of the Week.” Ngiwal ChelidWith pushed a little harder and defeated the Salty Boys.In the masters’ division, the Ngaraard Redmen trounced Ngchesar and the Ngarchelong Blue Sharks won without playing – the older Salty Boys failed to show up.At the end of the day, all the residual rust from last season had been tinkered off and voice boxes have been injected with adrenaline in preparation of the next games.
