At the rally that went on for more than three hours, the youth said school have become boring due to some of the instructors lack skills and one of the proposals that they recommended is to have all the instructors to be certified. The youth also raised the problem about the lack of system in applying for a scholarship. They said there should be a formal and systematic way in applying for scholarship. The youth were also asking for a healthy and attractive environment so that they can participate in various opportunities especially in sports competition. The youth said the government should improve the economy in Palau and provide them jobs to hone their skills.Chin responded to the youth concerns and promised them that if he will be elected as the next president, he will appoint a cabinet member that will represent the youth sector.Chin said he would appoint Alen Marbow to address the youth concerns.Chin and Seid said the future of the youth is very important and they promised to work together to give them a better future.Joleen Ngoriakl, 23, a political science student from Regis University said that the rally was a good opportunity to voice out their opinion.“I thanked them (Chin and Seid) for giving us the chance to be involved in this political practice, for hearing us and for letting us speak what’s in our mind and hearts,”she said.Memei Sakuma, 17, a senior high school from Bethania High School in a separate interview said that the rally was worth attending to because they talked a lot of things and its all about them and the problems surrounding them. She said they also talked about the minor drinking alcohol and the curfews.Chin for his part said that the rally was a success. He said it was very good to hear the voice of the youth talking about tough issues about education, health, environment and underage drinking.“ We talked about what do we need to do to make sure they stay in school and we talked about environment and how can they become a member of a group and all kinds of stuff. I learned a lot from them and this is a good start because they were nor heard in the past and there’s a gap between them and us, being officials. What they want doesn’t reach to us and what we did doesn’t come to them so I made a promise to address their concerns if I will be elected. I will put a cabinet member that will be in charge of all the programs for the youth,”Chin said in a separate interview after the rally that was held at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center. After the discussion, games and entertainment followed. The activity started at 1 p.m. and ended at 6 p.m.
