Palau celebrates its first Agricultural Fair

According to Fred Sengebau, Director of the Bureau of Agriculture, the fair is funded and organized by Food and Agriculture Organization, Bureau of Agriculture, Taiwan Technical Mission, Palau Community Action Agency, Palau Community College-Cooperative Research and Extension, Palau Small Business Development Center, Ministry of State, and Desisichii a Buai.

Sengebau said that the fair is set to coincide with the celebration of the World Food Day – celebrated worldwide on the 16th.“This year’s fair theme is ‘Strengthen our food security through development of our agricultural industry,’” said Sengebau. “The fair will showcase all of the possible improvements and developments in agriculture, which we could use to secure our food sources and resources,”Further, issues pertaining to climate change challenges and use of bioenergy will be addressed during the fair. The fair is scheduled to run from 10:00 am. To 5:00 p.m.According to Sengebau, all of the fair’s activities will be held in front of the old Olbiil Er a Kelulau building.“We invite everyone to the fair,” he said. “It is time that we learn to grow our own food and learn to develop our farms to adapt to the unpredictable and sometimes destructive weather changes.”All who interested about the fair are asked to call the Bureau of Agriculture for further details.
