Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs Faustina K. Rehuher-Marugg said the group met twice a year to discuss and document cultures, transcribe it and publish it for schools and libraries.
The minister added that they held two weeks conference and discussed the importance of village organization or the traditional organization and its significance in the lives of Palauans.She said they come together and record their discussions and translate it.The Palau Society of Historians is chaired by Dirraii Yosko Ngiratumerang while the vice chairman is Theodosia Blailes.The historians are working with the Bureau of Arts and Culture under the supervision of Director Dwight Alexander.For two weeks, the historians talked about roles and responsibility of traditional leaders in their clubs or villages.Meanwhile Marugg said this year’s parade for Independence Day will showcase 26 different nations including Palau to show the richness of the diversity of culture in Palau.“We need to understand each other for us to appreciate each other and as Palauans, we need to understand the culture of other people especially those who are here, to know them and appreciate their culture,” Marugg said.The parade which also coincides with the celebration of OBF will be held on October 1 and will start from the old Koror state.
