Palau’s Immigration is now using advance IT system

The new IT aims to improve the efficiency and the services of the Bureau of Immigration.

A handover ceremony was held on Friday at the airport’s Immigration to officially turn over 15 sets of computer system to the Palau government. Taiwan Ambassador Maggie Tien handed the computers to President Johnson Toribiong.The donation was part of Taiwan and Palau’s Technical Cooperation in facilitating E-Government in Palau.IT expert from Taiwan Osbert Ong of the Chuan Jia Technology Co. Ltd. conducted a two-day IT training course for all Immigration officers for the use of the system.21 Immigration officers including Director Joseph Giramur received certificates on Friday for the IT training which was held last Wednesday and Thursday.Taiwan government has been working on deploying E-Government for years and had successfully improved the efficiency of its services.The project aims to share Taiwan’s expertise with Palau in facilitating E-Government.President Toribiong thanked Ambassador Tien and Taiwan for making this project come true.The project has been in planning since 2008 when a group of expert delegation came to Palau to conduct a local survey, culminating in the equipment installation and IT training for the Bureau of Immigration.Director Giramur said eight of these systems were installed at the airport. Six were installed at the arrival and two at the departure section.The other seven were installed at the Immigration office in Koror.
