PCS participate in team-building and reflection retreat

Members of the PCS conservation teams – Terrestrial, Marine, and Education programs – left yesterday to participate in a two days team-building and reflection retreat at an undisclosed rock island.  The participants are expected to share their experiences within the respective programs, reflect on their accomplishments and lessons learned from their fields of work, and revisit the vision and mission statements of PCS – in the process, gain insights in preparation for PCS’ annual work planning sessions.

The PCS’ mission statement is “to work with the community to preserve [Palau’s] unique natural environment and perpetuate its conservation ethic for the economic and social benefit of present and future generations of all Palauans and for the enjoyment and education of all who visit our islands.”

“The retreat is an opportunity for all of members of the programs to get together,” said Asap Bukurrou, PCS Senior Marine Officer. “Most of us are often caught up in our day to day work that sometimes we miss out on things that go on in the other programs.”

Bukurrou further added that the retreat provides for an opportunity for all of the participants to be critical of their work in a constructive manner in relation to PCS’ vision and mission.  It is, he added, a chance to make ample room for improvement.

All of the participants of the retreat are expected to return on tomorrow.

PCS Executive Director, Tiare T. Holm stressed that the retreat is essential as PCS gets set for next year.

“Our conservation programs team implements a critical component of the PCS’ mission,” Holm stated. “It is important that the team is strong, cohesive, and shares a clear vision of what they want to accomplish next year.  The retreat will greatly contribute to the success of our organization.”

PCS retreat participants, upon returning, will organize, and plan for their work planning sessions at the end of this month.
