According to Augusta Rengiil, the interim executive director of the CHC, the money will be used for “quality assurance” activities of the CHC Governing Board.

“Quality assurance activities includes training of personnel who staff the community health centers,” Rengiil said. “The money could also be used to promote awareness of the services provided at the health centers.”According to Rengiil, PIPCA is very much aware of the activities of the CHC Governing Board and has kindly given the money to help support and endorse the mission of the board.PIPCA is an association that was established to “promote and support quality primary health care in the U.S.-affiliated Pacific Island jurisdictions – American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Republic of Palau. The money was presented to the CHC Governing Board on Tuesday by Clifford Chang, a consultant of PIPCA.According to Rengiil, Chang was on island to provide training to CHC board members on the roles of the board as mandated by the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant, which funds all of the community health centers in Palau.“I thank the CHC board members for their commitment and dedication,” Rengiil said.  “They have volunteered and sacrificed their time to ensure that the health of the people living in Palau reaches its optimum.”Rengiil said the CHC Governing Board members unanimously agreed to deposit the $15,000 in an account in the board’s name.   Furthermore, she said the board will look into which services or areas within the community health centers could best be improved with the deposited funds.“I am very pleased with the members of the board,” Rengiil said, “And grateful for Clifford Chang and PIPCA for the money they have given.”Rengiil said that there are still a lot of issues within each of the community health centers that need to be addressed; however, “the Governing Board, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is working very hard to ensure that affordable, quality, and effective health services continue to be provided to the people in Palau.”
