The man was picked up at the Wewak Airport last Friday, following a tip-off.
Provincial Police Commander Senior Inspector Vincent Pokas told NBC News while it is normal for gun-owners to be carrying ammunitions, the amount discovered was too much and highly suspicious.
Security in the province has been stepped up, in the lead up to next year’s general elections, which saw the apprehension of the suspect at the Wewak airport.
