The World Music Days “Harmony for Humanity” is inspired by the life and work of Wall Street Journal reporter and musician Daniel Pearl, who, in 2002, was murdered by terrorists while investigating a story in Pakistan.
U.S. Ambassador Peter Prahar commemorated Pearl during his remarks at the event.
He said Pearl reminded us “how much we owe to journalists, our guardians of freedom of speech and freedom of expression, and especially to those who risk their lives in the most dangerous places on earth, under the most hazardous circumstances imaginable, to bring us, to the extent possible, an unbiased view of events.”
The Daniel Pearl Foundation was established as a global concert network affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship and shared humanity.
The inauguration of Daniel Pearl Music Days in October 2002 was launched with a huge impact, incorporating over 100 concerts in 18 countries. For ten years, musicians ranging from small amateur bands to symphony orchestras have dedicated performances to the ideals for which Pearl stood: friendship, tolerance and a love of humanity.
In 2010 a record number of 1,644 musical events in 84 countries took place in this global initiative.
