Poker rooms remain busy despite typhoon

WHILE everyone else was monitoring the progress of Typhoon Mawar on Wednesday, some community members were trying their luck inside poker rooms.

“There is nothing much to do in home. There is no work today. I just want to let my time pass in here. Hope I get lucky today,” said one individual who declined to be identified.

The four poker rooms that Variety visited were all busy, with several customers present.

“The typhoon is nothing to worry about. It is not here on Saipan but on Guam,” one of them said.

At Bantalan beach, some community members were seen surfing or swimming.

Saipan experienced heavy rainfall and strong winds that created high waves on Wednesday.

The government  issued a flash flood warning and a storm surge warning due to the strong winds of Typhoon Mawar.
