HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man was arrested in connection to the February death of a motorcyclist.
On Monday, the Guam Police Department announced in a news release that 59-year-old Richard Luzanta was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide.
Luzanta’s arrest stems from a traffic crash that occurred the evening of Feb. 25. An automobile and a motorcycle collided on Route 1 near Chief Brodie Memorial Elementary School in Tamuning, according to police.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound on Route 1 when a 2019 Dodge Challenger executed a U-turn in front of Chief Brodie Elementary,” GPD spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella said in the release.
“Tragically, the operator of the motorcycle collided with the rear end of the Challenger, resulting in severe consequences,” Savella added.
Following the crash, the driver of the Challenger, now suspected to be Luzanta, fled the scene but was located at an establishment nearby.
The motorcyclist, identified as Chet Charles Gallinari, of Yigo, was pronounced dead after he was transported to Guam Memorial Hospital.
In addition to vehicular homicide, Luzanta was arrested on suspicion of not yielding the right of way while executing a left turn and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
After Luzanta’s arrest Monday, he was booked and confined at the Department of Corrections, and the case was forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General.
