HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Police are investigating a single car crash in Sinajana which left a man in his mid-30s dead.
The crash occurred early Saturday morning on Route 4 of the Sinajana hill, according to the Guam Fire Department who responded shortly after 2 a.m. to find the male operator in need of CPR.
Police said, the man was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Montero when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the roadway.
“The vehicle collided with a chain link fence before crashing into the GWA chlorine station at the GPA/GWA pump station A-23/25,” a release from GPD said.
Following the collision the vehicle became fully engulfed by fire.
“It was identified that 4 (four) individuals provided assistance to the operator and pulled the driver out of the vehicle before it was fully consumed by the flames. The Guam Fire Department extinguished the fire before it could have caused further damages,” police said.
GFD transported the man to Naval Hospital, conducting CPR enroute, however, the efforts were unsuccessful.
“He was pronounced deceased by Dr. Haggerty. Official identification is pending notification of the next of kin,” GPD said.
GPD closed off the road while on scene Saturday, investigating the crash site to determine the contributing factors. The investigation is ongoing.
Police noted that the Guam Waterworks Authority confirmed there was no chlorine spillage as a result of the crash.
This is the 19th serious traffic crash this year and the 23rd traffic fatality.
