Patrol Division Acting Chief Lt. Peter Napoleon said the round-the-clock duty with two shifts is supposed to end by August 14 but it might be extented as the athletes will have some parties and time to visit Rock Islands and other scenic sites of the Island after the Micronesian Games.
The Micronesian Games will conclude today, a closing ceremony will be held at the Palau National Track and Field at 5 p.m.
Napoleon said the police 12- hour duty started on July 26 during the arrival of the U.S. Navy Seventh Fleet Command Ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC19) which conducted humanitarian mission in Palau.
The police officer added that aside from the police, recruits from the 18th Law Enforcement Academy were also utilized to augment the security at the playing venues as well as in assisting the traffic flow.
The recruits’ augmentation, according to Napoleon is part of the Law Enforcement practical training.
He said that since the police visibility intensified there were no reported major incidents. Last week most of the cases being reported to the Patrol Division Office were minors involved in alcohol drinking and driving under influence of liquor. However they were already cited and appropriate charges were filed against them.
