PPUC Board of Directors Kione Isechal in a letter to the Palau Chamber of Commerce (PCOC) invite the organization to attend the presentation to update the chamber members on the new rate policy.
Isechal was also responding to PCOC’s queries regarding the new rate policy. The PCOC said that the PPUC lacked transparency for failure to inform the public on the new tariff rates.“PPUC implemented the new tariff and electrical rate mechanism following due process which is mandated by the enacting law which created PPUC as a publicly owned corporation. Prior to the implementation of the new tariff and electric rates, radio announcements and public notices were made for the hearing that was held to inform the public and gain the public’s perspective on this mechanism,” Isechal said.He said the public hearing was held in May 26, 2008 at the Koror State Assembly Hall but there was no representatives from the PCOCC.He said that PCOC itself should be vigilant in the promulgation process of policies and regulations especially on the matters that affects the business.Nonetheless, PPUC said it will conduct a final presentation to explain the rationale and technical and economic factors that are incorporated in an empirical computation of the monthly electrical rates.
