THE Pre-trial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week proclamation signing on Monday was dedicated to the late Ursula Lifoifoi-Aldan, the former chief probation officer.
Ursula-Aldan passed away on Sept. 21, 2019 at the age of 63.
She was a trailblazer who was committed to public service, said Superior Court Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja.
“She was with the judiciary for over 29 years, and the first woman in the NMI to hold the title of chief probation officer,” he added.
She was an annual awardee for the American Probation and Parole Association, and was the recipient of the CNMI judiciary’s Chief Justice Award.
Her husband, former Rep. Frank Aldan, and their children were present at the proclamation signing during which they received a gift: an enlarged photograph of the former chief probation officer.
This year, July 18-24 was designated as Pre-trial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week.
According to the proclamation signed by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, “Probation and Parole professionals uphold the law with dignity, while recognizing the right of the public to be safe-guarded from criminal activity.”
Moreover, “Probation and Parole professionals are a true force for positive change in their communities.”
Also present during the proclamation signing were Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Joe Deleon Guerrero, Division of Youth Affairs Director Vivian Sablan, DYS juvenile probation program officer Sylvio Ada, Board of Parole Chairman Ramon B. Camacho, Chief Parole Officer Nick Reyes, Superior Court Associate Judges Joseph N. Camacho and Kenneth L. Govendo and other judicial personnel.
