President Toribiong off to Saipan

Fitial’s inauguration after re-elected as CNMI’s governor is on Monday, January 11.

Toribiong will fly to Saipan with his presidential chief of staff Isaac Soaladaob.

While in Saipan, the president said he will take the opportunity to request Fitial to provide an office space for Palau’s consulate office in CNMI.

Palau’s consulate office in CNMI has been closed at the end of 2009 due to budgetary constraints.

The president however wants to keep the Guam consulate office open since it’s a vital office for Palauans living in the area.

The president said Soaladaob on their way back to Palau will stay on Guam to attend to the consulate office there.

The Guam consulate office was not closed in December, but will be open until April.

The president said he will be asking Congress to fund the operation for another six months.
