Special Prosecutor Michael P. Copeland filed charges of one count of Driving under the Influence of alcohol and one count of reckless driving against Ronald Ledgerwood.
According to the affidavit of probable cause executed by Bureau of Public Safety Officer Brenda Santos , Ledgerwood on August 29, 2008 was driving his 1993 Burgundy Toyota Surf at 2:00 pm when it collided onto a wooden electric pole beside the basketball court in Ngerbodel, Ngerchemai Hamlet.The affidavit stated that the vehicle was traveling at a speed of 25 to 30 miles per hour.According to the document, a witness saw Ledgerwood leaving the vehicle and proceeded to the Waterfront Villa.A police officer responded to the scene and saw that a vehicle struck the electric pole causing the power line to fall in the middle of the road and the driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be found.The affidavit further stated that the responding officer went to the Waterfront Villa and found Ledgerwood swimming at the pool.The affidavit stated that Ledgerwood left for a quick shower and to change his clothes and spoke to the responding officer later.Ledgerwood’s breathe smelled alcohol, the affidavit stated.The affidavit stated that Ledgerwood admitted driving the vehicle and asked the officer to take him to the hospital.The affidavit stated that an officer in charge of the case observed Ledgerwood staggering and swaying when he was exiting the police car.The affidavit further stated that Ledgerwood was on sick leave at the time of the incident.
