PUBLIC School System Career & Technical Education Program Director Jessica B. Taylor on Tuesday shared with the officers and members of the Rotary Club of Saipan the PSS plan for a new CTE center at Marianas High School.
During the Rotarians’ luncheon meeting at Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s Restaurant, the club president, Wendell Posadas, asked Taylor to talk about the facility that will house PSS’ CTE program.
Posadas wanted her to share with Rotarians the ongoing efforts in developing a workforce in the Commonwealth. “There are great possibilities,” he said.
Taylor said the CTE center will soon rise at MHS.
“Right now they are just discussing the terms and everything, but that is the vision: having a CTE building where you will have classrooms for students of auto-mechanics. We’ll also have maybe a stage in the [performing] arts area, as well as classrooms for cosmetology and nursing assistant program,” Taylor said.
In September 2021, U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho announced that PSS had been awarded a $6 million grant for the construction of a new CTE center at MHS. The grant, he said, was “the last of seven applications from the Commonwealth with the Economic Development Administration for Super Typhoon Yutu recovery projects.”
Acknowledging the presence of Board of Education Chairman Gregory Pat Borja, who is a past president of the Saipan Rotary Club, Taylor said she was happy to let him know where the board-approved funding is going. “It is really going to the students in these programs — it is very exciting,” said Taylor who also noted the BOE’s strong support for the CTE program.
