THE Public School System is seeking flexibility in tapping financial resources to implement its Covid-19 recovery plan.
In their fiscal year 2022 budget submission to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Board of Education Chairman Andrew Orsini and Education Commissioner Alfred Ada said PSS has a long-term Covid-19 recovery plan.
During budget meetings with school administrators and program managers, the education officials said they were able to present “detailed funding information in the budget that will be allocated to the Covid-19 recovery plan.”
They added, “The investments PSS is making will be complemented by leveraging existing resources to address student needs, with a particular emphasis on those whose needs are greatest. These investments will be especially important in the upcoming year as we continue to tackle the hard work related to the impact of Covid-19.”
Orsini and Ada said given the continued uncertainty of the pandemic, the challenge is to maintain “a degree of flexibility on deployment of our resources and to adopt a long-term recovery plan that addresses the academic and emotional needs of every student.”
“PSS recognizes that to fulfill its responsibilities, the support of all stakeholders is essential. We welcome the opportunity to present our case for our share of general fund appropriation in behalf of our students, our teachers, administrators, counselors, and all of our leadership team who have managed to weather a fiscally turbulent year to provide the best of an education under unbelievably challenging circumstances,” Orsini and Ada said.
