GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres on Thursday joined Filipino and local community members as well as Tan Holdings Corp. officials and employees at the Saipan International Airport for the arrival from Guam of the remains of the late Philippine Honorary Consul Glicerio “Eli” Del Mundo Arago.
On Saturday, Dec. 4, at Mount Carmel Cathedral, there will be a public viewing starting at 9 a.m. followed by a memorial Mass.
A senior vice president of Tan Holdings and longtime resident of the CNMI, Arago passed away on Nov. 24 at the Guam Regional Medical City due to complications after a stroke. He was 69.
As a mark of “solemn respect for the life and service of the late honorary consul,” Torres ordered that CNMI and U.S. flags be flown at half-staff at the administration building and all public buildings until the day of Arago’s interment.
Arago, who became honorary consul in 2015, will be buried in his home province of Batangas, south of Manila, the Philippines next week.
On Thursday, from the Saipan airport, the hearse carrying his remains made a brief stop at Tan Holdings’ JP Center on Beach Road in Garapan, and then at the Philippine Honorary Consulate-CNMI Support Office at Sun Palace Hotel, Susupe before proceeding to Borja Funeral Homes.
The remains of the late honorary Philippine consul to the CNMI, Eli Arago, arrived at the Saipan airport on Thursday.
