Red Ribbon months to be observed

Presidential Proclamation No.08-12, signifies drunk and drugged driving prevention months.

Remengesau said that the Red Ribbon was adopted as symbol of the anti-drug movement in honor of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, an agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration who was kidnapped and killed while investigating drug traffickers.The president said that members of the community can do their part by not allowing friends and relatives to drive while impaired by alcohol and other drugs.The proclamation said that members of the community should also alert police officers to drunk and drugged drivers and cooperate fully at sobriety checkpoints.In observing the red ribbon months, the president asked each citizens “to make conscious effort to ensure a safe and healthy holiday season and to take part in this observance and activities designed to advance the cause of prevention and control of driving while impaired by alcohol or other drugs.”In honoring these months, the president urged citizens to tie a red ribbon to car antennas to show solidarity against drunk and drugged driving.The new law penalizes felons with imprisonment of not less than one day and not more than one year and a fine of up to $1,000.
