Six Palauans bag Taiwan scholarship

On Friday, the Taiwan embassy announced the name of six scholars who were selected from a number of applicants.

Danielle Jean Marie-Willis, Britanny Masang, Genna Saiske and Laydee Melanch Ngirmeriil are all pursuing their undergraduate studies in Taiwan.

Landisang Kotaro and Prescott Yuri will meanwhile take up their master’s degree in a university in Taiwan.

Ambassador Maggie Tien said the scholars chosen this year are among the best students in Palau.

The Palau National Scholarship Board was part of the selection process and stated that it was not an easy job choosing the recipients.

President Johnson Toribiong who was present in the ceremony Friday said the experience of studying in Taiwan is “demanding.”

“It will change your lives forever,” Toribiong told the scholars by sharing his experience as a recipient of a scholarship years ago.

Each of the selected students received round trip tickets and 30,000 Taiwan dollars each month.

The scholars will also be pursuing studies in the Language Enhancement programs.

Kevin Mesebeluu and Uroi Salii, Palauan students currently studying in Taiwan via the scholarship program imparted to the new students their experience.

Salii said the studies are “intense and rigorous” but it can be a life –changing experience.

Mesebeluu meanwhile said that he went to Taiwan to make something of him and the experience has though him many lessons in life.

Every year, the Taiwan embassy provides scholarship opportunities to Palauan citizens.

Tien said presently there are seven Palauans studying in Taiwan.
