Remengesau: “Things did not move forward in the Senate because of political considerations”

President Remengesau in an interview on Wednesday after his regular weekly press conference said that things did not move forward because of obvious political reasons.

“I did not run to become an officer of the Senate. What I would like to see in the Senate is the change of personality and mentality,” he said.“I hope the Senate will work as a group to pass very much needed legislations that will help the people. There are young people in there that I know can do the work as far as chairing the committees. As a Senator, I would work with the committees and leadership to pass very much needed legislations but as far as being in the front line, eight years of being president is lot of front line responsibility and so I can be just as effective in the Senate in working with the Chairman of the committees. That’s how I see my role in the Senate,” he said. The president said he is hoping that Senate will follow the mandate of the people.“I hope Senate would be production oriented to be really working for the people instead of following the personality of the last Senate where things did not move forward because of political considerations,” the President said.
