Rose Mary Cepeda Ilo pleads not guilty to federal drug charge

ROSE Mary Cepeda Ilo has pleaded not guilty to the indictment that charged her with conspiracy to possess over five grams of methamphetamine or “ice” with the intent to distribute.

Ilo, through court-appointed attorney Mark Hanson, also waived the advisement of her constitutional rights and the reading of the charge against her.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Garth Backe appeared for the federal government.

Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona of the District Court for the NMI granted Ilo’s request to be released on an unsecured bond in the amount of $1,000.

The judge said Ilo’s jury trial will start on May 18, 2021 at 10 a.m.

She ordered the prosecution to produce all exculpatory evidence to the defendant pursuant to Brady v. Maryland, and its progeny.

“Not doing so in a timely manner may result in sanctions, including exclusion of evidence, adverse jury instructions, dismissal of charges and contempt proceedings,” the judge said.

According to the indictment, between March 31, 2020 and/or about May 7, 2020, Ilo knowingly and intentionally conspired and agreed with other persons known to the grand jury to possess with the intent to distribute over five grams of ice, a schedule II controlled substance.

No other details of the case were available as of press time Thursday.
