FIVE months after the 22nd Legislature was inaugurated, the four-member Rota Legislative Delegation will finally convene for its organizational session on Wednesday, May 19.
During an informal meeting at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Senate chamber, Rep. Donald Manglona, Sens. Paul A. Manglona, Victor B. Hocog, and Teresita Santos discussed the delegation chairmanship.
They agreed to look into the possibility of changing the structure of the delegation leadership, and asked the Senate legal counsels, Antoinette Villagomez and Jose Bermudez, to prepare a proposal to amend the rules pertaining to the delegation’s leadership structure.
Right now, each legislative delegation has a chairman, one vice chairman, one secretary and committee chairmen.
According to Rep. Donald Manglona, three are interested in the delegation chairmanship: he, Santos and Senator Manglona who chaired the delegation in the 21st Legislature, but it seldom held a session due to the unavailability of Hocog and Santos.
Senator Manglona said on Thursday they considered the idea of “sharing” the chairmanship.
He said he is willing to withdraw his bid for chairmanship if the other members will allow Rep. Donald Manglona to be the chairman for two years after which Santos will succeed him.
But Santos wants to be the chair first, Variety was told.
Senator Manglona said they will have to decide on the issue next week. What’s important, he said, is that the delegation will finally convene and can move ahead to fulfill what they promised the people of Rota.
The senator said the delegation has to act, as soon as possible, on pending local appropriation measures for Rota medical referral patients and students.
