Rota official hopes veterinarians will visit island

ROTA is hoping that veterinarians will visit the island to help solve its stray dog problem.

“There is still no update from any government agency on how we will address our stray dog population,” Rota Municipal Council Chairman Jim Atalig said.

And there is still no concrete plan for a spay and neuter clinic on Rota, he added.

Variety learned from other government officials that Rota should apply for federal grants that could fund its stray animal program.

But Lauren Cabrera, co-founder of Saipan Humane Society, said as of now there is no available grant funding, and they have yet to hear from the approving authorities of agencies where they’ve previously submitted grant applications.

The U.S. Army, for its part, is planning a veterinary outreach clinic on Rota in July.

Atalig said more information will be provided once the plan is “solidified.”
