Rotary Club of Palau inducts new officers

The new officers are Richard Ziegler, President; Augusta Rengiil, Vice-President; Matthew Cruz, Secretary; Gregory Gordon, Treasurer; and Caleb Otto, Sergeant-At-Arms.

“It’s an honor to be nominated and elected as the new President,” Ziegler said in his speech during the induction night.

“We all agreed that the Thomas Schubert, the outgoing president, did an excellent job, raising funds and creating new projects. As the new President, I know that I have big shoes to fill.” But Ziegler promised to do his best and thanked the new officers and Club members for their support and dedication.

Schubert, on his part, thanked his club members for all for their help and assistance for the year 2009 to 2010. “And I wish great success to the incoming President for the upcoming year,” he said.

Ziegler said their initial focus at the beginning of this year is the upcoming 15th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Palau in November. “Suggestions are welcome to jumpstart the preparation. Right after the MicroGames we are going to start sending out our letters to catch the momentum of the people.”

Among the major accomplishments of the outgoing officers included, finalizing the Matching Grand Application to the Rotary Foundation, donating wheelchair-accessible mini van for Seeds of Promise, the Mad Hatter Tea Party on the grounds of the National Museum, donating the first 12 Hospital Sleeper chairs worth $ 9000.00 USD to MOH, renovating the Ngchesar Elementary School library and donating $1000 to the Tsunami disaster relief efforts in Samoa.
