Rui Jun Huang sentenced to 42 months

SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho has sentenced Rui Jun Huang to 42 months in prison for stabbing a man he was fighting with, and another person who was trying to break the fight on May 9, 2022.

One of the victims died and the other was seriously injured.

Huang, 49, was initially charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and battery, aggravated assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon.

Later, Huang, represented by court-appointed attorney Robert T. Torres, stipulated with Assistant Attorney General Steven C. Kessel to amend and/or dismiss the other charges.

Huang pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter, and aggravated assault and battery at a hearing on Dec. 7, 2022.

For the charges of voluntary manslaughter, the judge sentenced Huang to 10 years’ imprisonment, with the first three years and six months to be served day for day without the possibility of parole, probation, early release, work release, weekend release or other similar programs.

“Defendant shall receive credit for (221) days of time served. The remaining sentence is suspended and may be imposed in whole or in part for violation of law or Office of the Adult Probation rules,” the judge said.

For aggravated assault and battery, Huang was sentenced to one-year imprisonment, to be served concurrently with the sentence imposed on Count I.

Huang will be released from incarceration on Nov. 11, 2025, the judgment and commitment order stated.

Judge Camacho likewise ordered Huang to pay $10,088.47 to the designated representative for the estate of Ruchun Xu (victim No. 1).

Huang will also pay restitution in the amount of $5,001.11 to Meng Ling Wei (victim No. 2).

The defendant will be placed on probation for three years after serving his sentence.

As part of his negotiated plea agreement with the government, Huang agreed that should “formal deportation proceedings be brought against him by a competent authority, he will voluntarily agree to deportation and shall take any action necessary to expedite his removal from the United States of America and/or its territories and commonwealth.”

According to the Department of Public Safety, in the early morning of May 9, 2022, a group of men walked into the Paseo de Marianas after a night out.

One member of the group — victim No. 1 — saw an individual, later identified as Rui Jun Huang, and greeted him while continuing to walk. Huang, for his part, began talking loudly.

Victim No. 1 left the group and approached Huang. A brief fight ensued. The fight was immediately broken up by the group and other witnesses in the area, and the group left the scene.

Several minutes later, the group doubled back through PDM to head to a friend’s house where they ran into Huang again.

Witnesses told police that victim No. 1 left the group to confront Huang. Victim No. 2 followed to stop Huang and victim No. 1 from arguing.

At this point, Huang pulled out a knife and separately stabbed victims No. 1 and No. 2, DPS said.

A member of the group restrained Huang as the others called for police assistance.

Medics from the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported both victims to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. for further treatment.

At CHCC, one of the victims was pronounced dead, while the other was in critical condition and admitted for further care.
