THE Saipan Chamber of Commerce general membership on Wednesday afternoon elected its 2023-2024 board of directors.
The board members are elected annually to serve either one calendar year as an officer, or a staggered two-calendar-year term as a director. Elections are held every November for the new directors.
Chamber members who have served on the board for at least one year are eligible to run for chamber president.
The 2023-2024 board members are Angil Design Inc. founder Ron Smith, Paradise Dental Spa co-owner Donna Krum, Bank of Saipan President and Chief Executive Officer John Arroyo, and incumbents Chamber Treasurer and Sergeant-at-Arms Janice Tenorio and two-term Chamber President Joseph “Joe” Guerrero.
Smith sits on the board of the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance as one of its founders. As an active Chamber member since the turn of the century, and previously serving two terms on the board, he currently serves as co-chair of the Government Relations Committee, alongside current Chamber President Guerrero.
Like Smith, Krum has served on the Chamber board twice. She also served as president of the Soroptimist International-NMI Chapter — one of the Chamber’s newest members, as vice chair of the Blue Ribbon Initiative Consortium, and is also a member of the Rotary Club of Saipan.
Another Rotarian, Arroyo likewise serves on the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter board of directors, and the Northern Marianas College Foundation Board. He is the current grant administrator for the Building Optimism, Opportunities, and Stability Together, or BOOST, Program Grant under the CNMI Office of the Governor.
Tenorio is the CNMI IT&E senior manager of government and community relations and customer service and a former Board of Education chair. She has been a chamber member for over a decade and has served on the board for a term, including as current chair of its Education and Workforce Committee.
Guerrero is the co-owner of Naked Fish Bar & Grill and has been a Chamber member for almost two decades. He is also a member of the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers.
A nine-member board of directors governs the chamber.
The chamber is currently led by Guerrero, vice president Shayne Villanueva, Tenorio, secretary Marcia N. Calvo of Calvo’s Insurance, and directors Alex A. Sablan of Century Insurance, Das Krishnan of Crowne Plaza Resort, Dr. Joshua Wise of PHI Pharmacy, Nicole Babauta of Docomo Pacific, and Velma Palacios of IT&E CNMI.
