Saipan Chamber of Commerce supports vax carding for businesses

THE Saipan Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday expressed support for Covid-19 vaccination carding.

In an official statement, chamber president Joe C. Guerrero said, “In alignment with the recent suggestion by the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force to expand efforts in mitigating the spread of Covid-19 and allow businesses to recover, the [chamber] board of directors respectfully expresses our support for events, services, and businesses to require and request a person’s proof of vaccination, or ‘Covid-19 vaccination carding,’ to access the venue or space.”

Guerrero noted that Covid-19 vaccination carding has been implemented on Guam, Hawaii, and across the United States.  This includes mitigation efforts such as touchless menus and touchless payment options, he added.

“The Covid-19 vaccination carding has been well received, successful, and has provided comfort and reassurance on initiatives taken to protect patrons and the general community in many areas. For this reason, [the chamber] supports this mitigation effort,” said Guerrero.

This will apply to events, services, and businesses including concerts, organized parties, conferences, trade fairs, and workshops; restaurants and cafes that offer indoor and outdoor dining/table service, or providing any service to a customer at their seat or from anywhere but behind a counter; pubs, bars, and lounges that offer indoor and outdoor dining; nightclubs, casinos, movie theatres, indoor organized group recreational classes and activities; indoor ticketed sporting events; indoor adult group and team sports; indoor skating rinks; businesses offering indoor exercise or fitness; gyms, as well as exercise and dance facilities or studios.

In a media briefing last week, Covid-19 Task Force Chair Warren F. Villagomez said they were in discussion with Gov. Ralph DLG Torres regarding Covid-19 vaccination cards.
