Saipan Community School holds Science Fair 2021

(SCS) —  With some detailed planning and creative solutions aligned with Covid-19 mitigation procedures, Saipan Community School successfully hosted its annual Science Fair. The science fair is a culmination of all the hard work by students under the instruction of their teachers.  Kindergarten through 3rd grade classes completed class projects together. The Kindergartners researched “Fun with Magnets,” 1st Grade successfully grew plants from their own compost with  “From Garbage to Garden,”  2nd Grade studied liquid solutions and experimented with “Bubble it!” and the 3rd grade researched “Which Cup Keeps Drinks Colder.”

SCS also had a total of 66 individual learning projects from 4th through 8th grade displayed in the fair. Projects from each grade level were separated out on campus and rated by judges from the local science community. Students were rated on Experimental Design Process, Data Collection & Conclusions as well as Visuals and Presentation. Then a second round of judging aimed to highlight the scientific thought and thinking process, creative ability, understanding and creative problem solving skills, clarity and organization of the top projects from the previous round.

The fair culminated with an virtual award ceremony on the school’s Facebook page live and shared on the school’s learning platforms. Parents, students, and staff members were invited to view the projects on campus which were displayed in a socially distant manner, and recognize the students’ accomplishments and hard work.

Annabella Tudela in 5th grade was awarded overall Elementary Winner, with her project “Blood Compatibility” and Soledad Sablan in 8th grade was awarded Overall Jr. High Winner for her research and presentation of “This Little Light of Mine” an exploration of light and conductivity.

SCS would like to thank the parents and guardians for all their help and support throughout this project, and to the volunteers  who served as judges. SCC greatly appreciates the judges that came from the local science community including: BECQ, JAMS, DCRM, MINA, BTS, CUC, CHC, JRM, and NMC.
