THE Saipan Mayor’s Office and the U.S. Probation Office signed a community service program cooperative agreement on Aug. 9, 2023.
Under the agreement, the U.S. Probation Office will select and refer offenders or probationers to the Saipan Mayor’s Office to perform court-ordered community service.
The U.S. Probation Office will execute a work agreement with the probationers who will discharge their community work hours at the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
The mayor’s office “will be in charge of assigning duties and roles befitting their sentence goals, work hours, supervision, equipment and supplies for the probationer, and evaluation of their performance,” the Saipan Mayor’s Office said.
For its part, the U.S. Probation Office is authorized to conduct periodic drug tests on the probationers working at the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
“Any change in work schedule will only be approved by the U.S. Probation Office,” the agreement stated.
Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho said under the agreement, the probationers are given a “chance to redeem themselves in society” while contributing to the beautification efforts of their community, which will give them “time to reflect on what it means to be a responsible citizen.”
