Search for missing swimmer continues

(Department of Public Safety) — On Saturday, April  29, 2023, at 1:13 p.m., DPS 911 dispatch  received a call about a distressed swimmer at the north side of Marine Beach in Kagman.

Officers arrived at the beach around 1:59 p.m. and spoke with friends of the swimmer, who informed them that a giant wave had swept a  15-year-old  boy out into open water while swimming with friends.

At around 2:41  p.m., the Boating Safety Impact boat began a search for the victim along the reef line while DFEMS-SARU Unit assisted with the open-water search on their rescue boat.

At approximately 5 p.m., a United States Coast Guard helicopter arrived to help with the aerial search.

The search for the distressed swimmer continued on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 6 a.m., with the assistance of multiple organizations, including a USCG (helicopter and cutter vessel), CPA Ports, Customs Biosecurity, and DFEMS.

The search will continue today, Monday,  May  1, 2023, with additional assistance from BECQ and DNLR’s Division of Fish and Wildlife.
