Sen. Baules pleads guilty to assault charges

Judge Honora Rudimch will be issuing a written order on the plea agreement.

Court records showed that Baules was charged with two counts of assault and battery in Criminal Case 10-007.

The case stemmed from the complaint of assault by Lolita Gatuz and Francisco Beech on Jan. 10, 2009 at Ocean View Company near Japan-Palau Friendship Bridge.

Aggravated assault carry a jail term of up to ten years and assault with dangerous weapon carries a penalty of up to five years.

The reason for the assault was not detailed in the affidavit. The investigator further stated that the senator allegedly yelled at Gatuz to leave and then hit her and broke her ring finger.

Beech reportedly tried to check what was happening when he heard a commotion but the senator allegedly grabbed his neck and punched him on his jaw.

On Jan. 27 this year, In Baules’ first appearance in court heentered a not guilty plea.

He was released on his own recognizance with conditions that he shall obey all laws of

Earlier, Baules was found guilty to one count of assault and battery against taxi driver Spis Midar.

He was sentenced to pay $100 fine. The court suspended the 30 day imprisonment but the senator is placed on unsupervised probation.

Baules was also ordered to pay restitution to Midar in the amount of $285. The order states that if the senator successfully complies with the conditions, the court shall vacate the conviction.
