THE Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations has recommended the confirmation of Warren Villagomez’s reappointment as Marianas Visitors Authority board member.
Chaired by Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, the committee unanimously voted to support the reappointment of Villagomez who also chairs the CNMI Covid-19 Task Force.
Present at the committee meeting on Aug. 25 were Cruz, the committee vice chairman, Sen. Victor Hocog and Sen. Karl King-Nabors. Senate Vice President Justo Quitugua and Senate Floor Leader Vinnie Sablan were excused.
In its report, the committee said Villagomez’s reappointment is in accordance with the law, and they consent to his confirmation as MVA’s board member representing Tinian.
They noted that Villagomez has been commended “for providing safety to the Commonwealth as the lead of [the] Covid-19 Task Force.” The committee said the “CNMI was lucky to not have as many cases and fatalities from the virus, compared to other jurisdictions.”
The committee also said that Villagomez should work collaboratively with the other board members along with the MVA managing director “because although inevitable challenges arise, with teamwork it can always be surmounted.”
The committee believes that Villagomez “is very energetic” and will continue to serve the people of Tinian and the entire Commonwealth.
For his part, Villagomez thanked Gov. Ralph DLG Torres for reappointing him for another four-year term. Villagomez also thanked Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan for his support.
If confirmed, Villagomez said, “I will continue to work closely with my fellow board members and continue to initiate new ideas together to rehabilitate and promote a sustainable CNMI tourism industry.”
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve as board member. I humbly ask for your support and thank you for your time,” Villagomez told the Senate committee.
