THE Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government investigations has recommended the confirmation of three nominees to the Marianas Public Land Trust board: Tinian businessman Phillip Mendiola-Long, former Rep. Alvaro Santos, and former Education Commissioner Rita Sablan, Ed.D.
Last month, the Senate committee conducted a public hearing for the three who were nominated by Gov. Arnold I. Palacios in February.
The committee received multiple oral and written testimony in favor of the nominees’ confirmation with no public testimony opposing them.
The committee is chaired by Sen. Celina R. Babauta, and its other members are Senate Vice President Donald M. Manglona, Sen. Paul A. Manglona and Sen. Dennis C. Mendiola.
If confirmed by the full Senate as MPLT board members, Mendiola-Long, Santos, and Sablan would be tasked with managing the net revenues from public land leases.
