Senatorial candidate ordered to appear in court

THE Superior Court wants to know why independent senatorial candidate Andrew S. Salas has not been making payments toward a 2013 judgment in the amount of $14,851.09.

Salas was ordered appear in court on Aug. 22, at 10 a.m., and to provide any legal reason why the court should not find him guilty of contempt and why he should not be punished for disobeying a previously issued order.

The court will issue an arrest warrant if Salas fails to appear, the order stated.

Variety learned Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan will be presiding over the hearing.

Representing the plaintiff, Laura Jan Peterka, attorney Michael White said Salas “willfully disobeyed the order of this court issued on April 4, 2013.”

White said Salas was ordered to pay $100 per month starting April 5, 2013.

“His payments have totaled $8,800. The last payment received was May 3, 2017,” White said.

The arrears were in the amount of $2,200 as of May 16, 2022, the lawyer added.

White said Salas has knowledge of the order and was present in court when it was verbally given.

White also noted that Salas has been previously cited for contempt in the same case.

It was former Judge David Wiseman who signed the judgment order against Salas in 2013.

Peterka originally sued Salas for not paying back the money she lent him in the amount of $13,014.69 plus interest at a rate of 9% per year.
