Sept. is Cancer Awareness Month

In Presidential Proclamation No. 08-07, Remengesau urged the community to do their part to learn about cancer, help those around them change habits that lead to cancer and show special support to those suffering from cancer and their loved ones.

The president said that cancer is still the leading cause of death in the country but it continues to steadily increase among Palauans.The president said that there are programs such as the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Ministry of Health and Cancer Coalition have successfully raised awareness about the disease.The president said that there is a need for public education in order to reduce cancer mortality.He said one of the activities that the cancer program has been focusing on encouraging screening and early detection programs.“We must develop support programs and systems to help Survivor/Palliative care programs reduce the social, economic, emotional and spiritual burden of cancer care to families,” Remengesau said.
