Solar lighting installed in Melekeok abai

Ben Adelbai, Palau Community Action Agency (PCAA) Palau Renewable Energy Coordinator said that last week, the solar lighting was installed in Ngeru besang  abai in Melekeok .

He said this is the latest installation made because prior to that solar lighting was also installed in an Abai in Ngaremlengui State and left to be installed is in Ngchesar.The entire project, Adelbai said is funded by the EU in an amount of $30,000.Adelbai thanked the chief of the states for accepting the project which will benefit the communities.Adelbai lauded as well the contractor Akitaya Cooperation led by Maria Basilius for the project.He added that during the ribbon cutting ceremony in Melekeok Gov. Lazarus Kodep, Sens. Joel Toribiong , Paul Ueki and Regis Akitaya were present.Kodep for his part thanked the PCAA for the project which will especially help the community cut down electricity cost for the abai in the midst of another oil price hike.Adelbai said former State Minister Temmy Shmull was instrumental in the project.“Now that PCAA has done its part for the said project, it is now Ngerubesang’s part to see it is well-maintained periodically to ensure full operation way into the future,” Adelbai said.
