Spread Prevention of Crab-eating Macaque MOU Between PCS and BoA

BoA and PCS will work with members of the National Invasive Species Committee, partners, and stakeholders to address the control of Crab-eating Macaques for the benefit of the environment and the people of Palau.  Furthermore, both parties share a concern for effective and sustainable utilization, management and conservation of Palau’s unique culture and natural environment.

“The most important step is to stop the transport of monkeys from Angaur to Koror and the other islands of Palau” said Dr. Joel Miles, Coordinator, National Invasive Species Committee.  An on-going component of this project is a census of the Crab-eating Macaque that began in early February.  The census started in Ngermid hamlet working down south to Malakal in Koror.  The census will move on to Babeldaob after Koror.  Ngirbechat Arsenio and Ngedikes Benedict, two interns at BoA from the Palau Community College are the census enumerators.  Both PCS and BoA request full cooperation from the public to Mr. Arsenio and Ms. Benedict.
