In a press statement issued by SSA, as of yesterday, nearly 8,000 personalized enrollment forms have been printed and distributed to employees of the government and private sector. And currently, the names of those who already enrolled as well as their dependents and designated beneficiaries are being verified and entered into the new social security system.
“Over the last several months, we have been working with a regional IT consultant to develop a database required for managing information for the new HCF,” SS Administrator Greg Ngirmang said. “In fact, we are working with the same person who was involved in designing the current system that we now use for SS contributions and benefits.”
By April next year, the system will be fully operational, and individuals will be able to use their Medical Savings Accounts and receive coverage under the National Health Insurance.
SSA said the new software design includes processing of contributions to the HCF, tracking funds being deposited and used from an individual’s MSA, and processing refunds for foreigners.
Ngirmang noted that a lot of time and money are being invested in the software design to make sure that it will be as functional and effective as their current system.
“In recent years, the SS system has been able to generate data that other local agencies and even international organizations use for their statistics and research. It’s important for us that the system design for the HCF be as secure and reliable.” Ngirmang pointed out.
