State- of- the-art landfill to be relocated in Ngchesar

In a meeting with the Ngchesar Gov. Romana Anastacio along with the Vice-chairman of Ngchesar Public Land Authority, Director of Public Works and Highways, Director of Land and Survey and Representative from Solid Waste Management Office, PIIC Minister Jackson Ngiraingas said they tackled some issues concerning the project.

He said the area was already surveyed by the Environmental Quality and Protection Board as well as the Bureau of Land and Survey. The government is now waiting for the final approval of the Ngchesar Public Land Authority and Ngchesar Government to form an agreement for certain incentives to the State.

Ngiraingas said the relocation of dump site is due to the JICA assessment that the current landfill can no longer accommodate waste disposal for the next four years.

He said the design of new dumpsite was based on Guam solid waste facility. This is a state –of- the art solid waste facility because it can be used long term and could segregate all solid waste materials for processing.

There were at least four States were initially selected to relocate the landfill. These are the States of Melekeok, Ngatpang, Ngiwal and Ngchesar. But the latter was finally chosen as this is idle enough to transfer the facility and accessible for the other States to dispose their garbage.

The Minister said they are now working on the package of budget proposal of the project to be submitted to the JICA office for grants and also with the other International organizations.

He said the project will start in two years.
