The fleet which consist of Flagship Wu, frigate Kue-Ming and Frigate Pan-chao arrived on Tuesday at the Malakal port for its three-day visit on the usland on April 13 to 15.
A welcome ceremony was conducted led by President Johnson Toribiong and Taiwan Ambassador Maggie Taiching Tien together with other government officials on its arrival Tuesday.
A traditional dance was performed by the Young Palauans to entertain the fleet’s crewmembers during their arrival.
In his remarks, President Toribiong gave his warm welcome to the Fleet of Friendship.
“I extend to you a very, very welcome. We wish you a memorable stay after a long voyage from your country.” Toribiong said. “Palau will make sure that your visit is pleasant, enjoyable and memorable.”
On Wednesday, the fleet cadets’ team and Palauan basketball team held a goodwill basketball game at the Belau National Gymnasium. On the same day at 4 p.m., a marching band, color/honor guards and martial arts were performed at the Asahi Field.
During the event, a lion dance was performed by the ROC Marine Corps to open the performance, followed by marching band exhibition from the cadets graduates of ROC Naval Academy and marching band of ROC Honor Guards. The last part of the event was the demonstration of basic movements of the Chinese martial arts performed by the selected Marine Corps.
On Thursday a flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Malakal Port before the Fleet of Friendship sailed back to Taiwan.
Maggie said Palau is the last leg of the Fleet of Friendship’s one month and seventeen days’ trip.
During its month-long voyage, the Fleet of Friendship visited their country’s close allies including visited Solomon Island and Marshall Island.
The fleet comprises of 813 navy officers, soldiers and cadets from the ROC Naval Academy.
Each year graduating cadets sail aboard the Fleet of Friendship for shipboard training.
This is the ninth visit of the fleet to Palau.
