Taiwan Medical Mission holds clinics on traditional Chinese medicine at hospital

According to Dr. Ho-Han Wu, for two weeks, their team will be talking about preventive programs for kidney diseases and providing medical assistance using the traditional Chinese medicine or acupuncture.

“Their visit is another remarkable reminder of Taiwan’s International Cooperation Development Fund (ICDF) ongoing activity at the global level,” Selailama M. Lalabalavu, Director of Hospital and Clinical Belau National Hospital, said in her letter to Taiwan Ambassador Maggie Tien. “We applaud your work globally and your reasons to excel, and this time, we thank you for assisting Palau in the area of Medicine and Public Health. For the past many years, ICDF Taiwan has visited Palau’s shores with noble assistance tailored to suit local needs.”

Dr. Wu is joined by Dr. Hsueh-Jung Liu, Dr. Chien-Hang Ni and Assistant Liu Sze-Hung in the medical mission team.

“Acupuncture cures vertigo, nausea, injuries like ankle sprain, stroke, paralysis, heart diseases, and others,” by Dr. Hsueh-Jung Liu explained.

Acupuncture clinics will also be provided to the dispensaries of Ngaremlengui on August 16, Ngarchelong on August 17, Melekeok on August 19, and Airai on August 20.

Taiwan has brought Mobile Medical Teams to Palau in the past. Surgeons, pulmonologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, physiotherapists, rheumatologists and Chinese medicine specialists were brought by Taiwanese Medical Missions to Palau. This time, nephrologists and Chinese medicine specialists are on the island to assist Palau.

“Our goal is to help decrease the cases of kidney diseases in Palau,” Dr. Wu said.

Dr. Lalabalavu added in her letter to Ambassador Tien that they have enjoyed and learned a lot from previous experiences with the Taiwan Medical Teams.

Over the years the hospital has developed a sister relationship with Shin Kon Hospital, resulting in the deployment of an Emergency Physician Specialist on a three monthly basis.
