Teen awarded Kayangel state scholarship

According to Chiokai, Kayangel began offering the scholarship to post-secondary students of the state who excel in their studies.

“In 2006, the leadership of the state began looking for means to support the development of the state in terms of its human resources,” he said.  “We all agreed that providing support for our students to succeed in their educational pursuits would be the best way to augment the capacity of our human resources, hence, the scholarship.”Chiokai said Ruluked is the second person to receive the scholarship.“We depend on the Palau National Scholarship Board to review applications for this scholarship,” he said.  “The board has been very helpful and diligent in its review of the applications.”Chiokai said five students submitted applications for this year.“The four other applicants did not make the cut  for varying reasons,” he said.  “However, I hope they are not discouraged and that they will continue pursuing their education earnestly.”Chiokai said Ruluked is an “investment” for Kayangel.“We hope she continues to be successful.”Ruluked said she is very appreciative of the scholarship and that she will put it into good use. She is the daughter of Leo Ruluked Jr. and Matsumi Taro.
