Tinian resident accused of sexually molesting 3 minors

CATALINO “Lino” Cangco is accused of sexually molesting three minors on Tinian: two girls 16 and 14 years old, and a 13-year-old boy.

Cangco, 33, was brought before Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo for a bail hearing on Jan. 23, 2023 in the custody of the Department of Corrections. The defendant was charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the fourth degree, indecent exposure in the second degree, child abuse, and disturbing the peace.

The judge imposed a $25,000 cash bail on the defendant and remanded him to the custody of Corrections. Cangco was also ordered to return to court for arraignment on Feb. 6, 2023 at 9 a.m. A preliminary hearing set for Feb. 2, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. was canceled.

Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen represented Cangco during the court proceedings while Assistant Attorney General Dejon Redd appeared for the government.

The two girls told investigators that Cangco touched them inappropriately on separate occasions.

As for the boy, he told the investigators that Cangco “would show him inappropriate videos on his phone, of people doing weird things without clothes on.”

The boy also said that Cangco would also “show himself to [the boy] without his clothes on.”

No other information about the defendant was available as of press time Thursday evening.
