Tinian Stallion Battalion commemorates 9/11 at Field of Heroes event

TINIAN — On Sept. 28, 2022, at Tinian Veterans Park, the Tinian JROTC Stallion Battalion participated in the 2022 Field of Heroes event to honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

Forty cadets commemorated the people who sacrificed or lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy. This event was also a reminder that we shouldn’t forget what happened on that day and how it affected all of us.

Our Color Guard team began the event with the posting of colors while other cadets sang the national and CNMI anthems. Firefighters from DFEMS conducted a water gun salute to pay tribute to those who died on that fateful day and wreaths were laid in honor of the fallen.

Many of our cadets felt it was an honor to take part in this event.

“I felt great to be able to be at the event with our battalion to honor those fallen heroes,”   C/LTC Ciara Santos said. “It was an amazing event and a great opportunity to teach our cadets about the service men and women who protect our country.”

C/PV2 Isa Dosalua said, “I participated in this event because I wanted to show my respect to those lives fallen on that tragic day.”

C/2LT Ysabella Palacios said “9/11 is a day that impacted the nation in so many ways. Although it never impacted me as much as it did others, I still have respect for the tragedy. It is something I’ve acknowledged…and I think it’s important to continue to do so because it is a historical event.”

Though 9/11 was a day of loss, we have learned many things from this event, and one of them is to stay strong and do our best to protect our homes.

We would like to thank the Tinian Mayor’s Office for allowing us to participate in the memorial and we look forward to more events.
