Toribiong backs Ngiraingas on UKIHL, told chiefs to stick to its role

Toribiong invited the traditional chiefs days after the members expressed “deep and utmost concern about the grave allegations made by certain individuals on the controversial UK International Holdings Limited.

The president however said that the meeting is not specific to the UKIHL issue.

“The meeting is to establish schedule for regular consultation,” the president said in a telephone interview.

The meeting is scheduled at 11:30 today at the Palau Royal Resort.

Toribiong stood pat in his earlier statement that he wants the traditional leaders to stick to its role under the Constitution- which is to advise him only matters which only concerns traditional laws.

He however said this way, the chiefs will not get themselves involved in politics and avoid conflict with the Executive Branch.

The traditional chiefs made recommendations that the president discharge Morris Davidson as Palau’s honorary Consul to Malaysia; stop the false advertisement in the internet that makes it appear that the country is supporting the company; to prohibit Ngiraingas, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce from using his post to support Davidson and his firm; and direct the Office of the Attorney General to initiate a probe on Minister Jackson Ngiraingas’ possible violation of the Code of Ethics.

Toribiong told reporters that Ngiraingas has been supporting this project from day 1 and did not see any Code of Ethics violation in it.

Although the president stated that he is not involved in the project, “he believes in the presumption of innocence” and did not want to conclude whether the UKIHL operation is a scam.

UK Holdings is the company involved in the planned ambitious Nautilus Project in Peleliu State and Solaris City in Angaur.
