Toribiong disappointed with PHS

Toribiong visited the school on October 21 to check out the new computer laboratory when he accidentally saw the state of the school’s restrooms, some unsafe live power line lying around, and other dilapidated school facilities.

“We went there to see the new computer classroom when the president accidentally saw the unsanitary restrooms, with betel nut spit and vandalisms all over,” Borja said. “He was very disappointed about it.”

Borja added that the President informed the school officials about it and asked them to do something otherwise the school should be closed because it is unsanitary and unfit for students.

He asked both chairmen of the Health and Education Committee Sen. Regina Mesebeluu and Delegate Kalistus Ngirturong to check on the condition of the school and do something about it.

Right now, men from Bureau of Public Works are doing repairs on the campus, fixing restrooms and classrooms.

According to Borja, they have already spent $3,000 on materials for repairs, and they still need to purchase some more.

“Repairs are ongoing,” Borja said. We even asked the school administration if they can get the teachers and students to help do a cleanup drive on weekend.”

Senator Surangel Whipps, Jr. has also recently donated more than $1,500 worth of construction and repair materials for the school.

Because of the incident, the MOE, the Office of the President as well as the Bureau of Public Works are now working together to set a new standard for public schools.
