The news as reported by staff reporter Ko Shu-ling of Taipei Times on December 4th online stated that Chiu alleged on Tuesday that Chen sent NT$170 million into a First Bank account in Palau during his trip here in September 2006. It also stated that Kuomintang lawmaker Chiu Yi said he had obtained the information from Toribiong.“This is pure fabrication as I have never spoken to this lawmaker of Taiwan,” said President-Elect Toribiong, “or have I been contacted by any news media on this issue.”Toribiong said stressed that he is seeking legal representation in Taiwan to investigate the matter and for a possible lawsuit.The Toribiong’s camp urged any individual and media outlets withinand outside of Palau to get their facts straight and confirm information obtained from sources related to stories of President-Elect and Vice- President-Elect Kerai Mariur before publishing it in newspapers for dissemination as well as posting such stories on the web.Toribiong has written a letter to Taiwan Ambassador Maggie Tien that the story was a pure fabrication.“In response, I am compelled to state in the strongest terms possible for the record and to your government that this report is utter fabrication. I do not know nor have I ever met Chui and furthermore I have no knowledge whatsoever about any alleged transfer of money by ex- president Chen Shui Bien.”
